I guess I was never like the others. When other kids played tag, foursquare, and handball during recess in elementary school, I knitted with two pencils and a ball of yarn; I created pill-bug sanctuaries; I licked nectar from honeysuckles from the school yard fence. Hey don't get me wrong, others thought I was pretty cool... (I think).

Being crafty all my life, I decided to whip up a pattern and made my first narwhal plush toy back in June 2012 while I was looking for a job after graduation. Having had an Etsy account since 2008, I thought maybe it was time to start doing something with it. I gathered up my courage, prepared myself for failure, and listed my first narwhal, Charlie. I have to say, the first Charlie was quite lumpy. (If you're interested you can see it by flipping to the first product in my "sold" page). I perfected my pattern, and ever since, I've personally made more than 1000 narwhals one stitch at a time on my dingy (but trusty!) 13 year old sewing machine.

What I enjoy most about making these narwhals is the personal interaction I have with many of my customers! I love hearing where and to whom these narwhals are going. When making them for babies, I purposely use a little less stuffing so that they're softer to the touch. I also add an extra few stitches on the eyes and tooth so they're extra secure. I try to do all I can to make these narwhals just that much more personal. It's so amazing to know that I will indirectly be a part of a girl or boy's happy childhood memories.

I am a one girl team. I make every single narwhal-- starting from picking out the fabric to dropping them off at the post office. In addition to my full time job, the process can be quite taxing. However, it is so rewarding to hear the lovely stories and comments from you that it makes everything worth it!
